Some schools do not allow students or teachers to access sites such as Facebook or Twitter. I think these social networks can be very harmful to our society. They do not need to be used in school because they can be very distracting to children and possibly to teachers. If not monitored correctly, the sites can be used for bullying while at school. Another downfall to having these sites at school is that children would not learn to socialize using verbal language. The kids would only communicate through typing on their phones or computers instead of face to face communication with their peers.

Facebook can be a valuable tool when connecting with students, parents, and teachers in a school. A school can set up a page and get the proper consents from parents for students to access it. As long as it is controlled and monitored it can be used for updated messages, announcements, weather advisories, pictures, recruiting, and pretty much any information the school needs to relay. The world is moving towards social media so schools need to introduce students to it and teach them how to use it responsibly.
